Legion Dominant in Mac and Jack In this weeks matches of the Formby & District Snooker League attention has moved away from the League to Cup action in the form of the ‘Mac & Jack Team Pairs’.
The four games for which the results have been received saw two Legion Teams, one Les Dodd’s side and Holy Trinity progress to the next round.
Les Dodd’s A defeated a weakened Our Lady’s A side at the Gild Hall, Our Lady’s being in receipt of a 35 points handicap start. The first two frames resulted in narrow wins for Les’s players which still left the Gild Hall men ahead going into the decider by some 16 points. However the winners of the last two ‘Tower Heating Formby Pairs’, Andy Rae & Dave Quinn, were now in the way of an Our Lady’s victory. Despite a gallant attempt by Ian Dickinson and Peter Kershaw, Andy and Dave won by 74-30 to seal their passage through.
Legion B got some revenge for their League defeat the previous week by beating Con Club A away by 10 points having given away two points start. Frame’s 1 and 2 were close with the Legion making a profit of 8 points, just a lead of 6 going into the crucial third frame. The decider proved to be even tighter, Gary and Mark Rimmer just holding off the challenge of Tommy Tickle and Con’s skipper Keith Turner by 51-45.
Legion C won their derby game against the D team by 71 points after conceding 2 points on handicap. Colin Bennett and Terry Barlow along with George Howells and Peter Bennett soon had the match going the way of the C team, winning by 34 and 30 respectively over their D team rivals. This left Alan Morris and Mike Radcliffe to defend their lead in the final frame which they did comfortably, securing a narrow win over Mark Winkley and Eric McLean.
Holy Trinity won away at Les Dodd’s C due to the Southport side only providing 2 pairs thus conceding the final frame 147-0. The match was well poised after the first 2 frames as the Southport based side had reduced their 45 point handicap deficit to 26.
The scorecard for the Ince verses Les Dodd’s B has as yet not been received and there were byes for Con Club b, Our Lady’s B and the Brook Club.
