Doddy's C Secure Maiden League Victory In the latest games of the Formby & District Snooker League Les Dodd’s C have secured their first League victory, a 4-2 away win at Legion D.
The Princes Street outfit landed their victory the hard way, coming from 2-0 down. Michael Coward then impressed to beat Adrian Griffith 77-8 while R.Davis levelled affairs by defeating Jimmy McLintock. The League newcomers then stormed to victory through Paul Bimson (32 break) and Stephen Metcalfe (38 break).
The Brook also secured their first win of the season with a 4-2 away win at Ince. In a tight match , 5 of the 6 frames went down to the last colours, only Mark Pope won comfortably. Mark recorded a 73-14 success over Karl Wall but couldn’t save his side from defeat.
Andy Rae and Gavin Douglas were in fine form for Les Dodd’s A as they defeated Our Lady’s B 6-0 at home. Andy hit a 66 break while Gavin notched up breaks of 52,26 & 24 in his 125-0 defeat of Roger Wilkins. Dave Quinn also kept his decent run going, hitting a 24 break en route to a 69-25 defeat of Andy Hesketh.
Crosby Comrades beat Legion C 5-1 with star players R.Wilson (45 & 32) and R.Radford (25,23 & 22) both impressing. The Crosby side are mounting a serious bid for the Championship in what is their first season back in the League after many years.
Con Club B have got their season back on track after an impressive 6-0 derby victory over their A team. Graham Clark hit breaks of 28 & 21to outgun Allan Corlett while Peter Brown kept his name near the top of the stats with his ninth straight win.
Legion B have slipped off the top after a 3-3 away draw at Holy Trinity. Luke Palethorpe won well against Mark Rimmer for Trinity while Gary Rimmer stood out for the Legion in his 62-37 defeat of Steve Power.
The final match of the week saw Les Dodd’s B fail to win for the third match in succession. They drew 3-3 with Our Lady’s A at the Gild Hall. Despite a 21 break Mark Hopgood lost to Jimmy Tristram 65-28 in the first frame, Jimmy hitting a 21 break himself. Paddy Tyndall levelled matters at 1-1, assisted by runs of 23 & 24, against Peter Kershaw. The next 2 pairs of frames were also shared as Gerry Murch impressed for the home side and Frank Bradley did likewise for the visitors.
