Unbeaten Records put to Test

In this weeks matches of the Formby & District Snooker League the unbeaten records of four players were put to the test against each other in the visit of Les Dodd’s B to Holy Trinity.

Les Dodd’s B skipper Mark Hopgood won his battle against Steve Power by 53-23 to make it 8 wins out of 8 and the other big frame also went the Southport sides way, Frank Bradley notching win number 6 against Luke Palethorpe by 69-35. These victories along with an impressive 43 break by Peter Tomlin helped the visitors to a 4-2 win.

Leaders Les Dodd’s C stuttered to a 4-2 away win over Our Lady’s B. Roger Wilkins and Daniel Halsall dented the Princes Street outfits progress with comfortable wins over Dave Jackson and Tony Roberts respectively. Les Dodd’s skipper impressed in his match, a 38 break seeing him to a 73-23 victory over Colin Watterson.

The Con Club derby ended in a 5-1 victory for the B team. Breaks by Graham Clark (46) and Adam Maylor (24) helped them secure the win but Tommy Tickle ensured they didn’t have it all their own way, beating the previously unbeaten Tony Bellas in a Black Ball thriller.

Les Dodd’s A had a 5-1 home win over the Ince Club. Breaks by Andy Rae (42), Dave Quinn (21) and Dave Mills (20) secured the victory while Mike Pope avoided his teams whitewash by defeating Tom Wilson.

Legion C lifted themselves off the bottom with a fine 5-1 away victory at the Brook Club. Colin and Peter Bennett sent them into a 2-0 lead, the latter notching up a 23 break for good measure. Terry Barlow and Alan Morris then doubled their advantage in frames 3 and 4. The final frames were both Black Ball affairs with George Howells beating Phil harbon and Steve Hollinshead defeating Terry Farrell.

The Final match of the week saw a 4-2 derby victory for Legion B over their D team. The match didn’t start well for the B team though, Mark winkley and the in form Andy tucker putting the D team 2 up. However, victories from Gary, Mark and Dave Rimmer and Chris Howard turned the match on its head.
