Legion B Edge Ahead in Title Race
By Graham Clark

In the latest games of the Formby & District Snooker League Legion B have edged ahead in the title race by defeating Les Dodd’s C 5-1 away.

The match never went the Legion’s way at first as Carl Finlayson lost to S.Metcalfe and Gordon Dale scrambled a Black Ball win over Tony Walton. However the Rimmers stamped the Legions authority home in decent style with Chris Howard completing this 5-1 win.

Con Club B and Les Dodd’s A are one point off the lead after 4-2 victories against Les Dodd’s B and Con Club A respectively. Gavin Douglas stood out with breaks of 39 & 30 in his 94-16 defeat of Adam Maylor while there were also breaks compiled by Allan Parker (29), Paddy Tyndall (28), Alan Corlett (26), Andy Rae 24 and Dave Mills 22.

R.Wilson again impressed in Crosby Comrades latest win, a 4-2 away win over Legion D with breaks of 21 & 24, his total of 20 plus breaks this season now 7. For Legion D Chris Wagstaff ended the recent impressive run by R.Radford with a fine 72-44 victory

Jimmy Tristram hit a 29 break against Ray Lavelle but went down on the Black 66-63. The Legion C and Our Lady’s A match ebbed and flowed with honours ending even at 3-3. The frame of the match saw Jimmy Tristram hit a 29 break against Ray Lavelle but go down on the Black 66-63.

Holy Trinity won their away match at the Brook by 4 frames to 2. Luke Palethorpe and Colin Robertson sent the visitors 2 up, wins that were later complemented by James Holman and John Sanders who also won well.

The final match of the week saw Our Lady’s B entertain Ince at the Gild Hall. Despite Phil Kershaw wining early for the Gild Hall outfit, they found themselves 3-1 down due particularly to starring roles played by Mark and Mike Pope..However Our Lady’s fought back well to take the final 2 frames through Jason Francis and Roger Wilkins and ensure a 3-3 draw was achieved.
