Barrage of Breaks at Doddy's
By Graham Clark

In the latest matches of the Formby & District Snooker League, the two matches staged at Les Dodd’s Snooker Centre produced no fewer than Eleven breaks over 20.

Les’s C team moved 8 points clear at the top after beating close rivals Our Lady’s A 6-0. Steve Sullivan knocked in the highest break of the week, a 57 in defeating Ian Dickinson 73-32 and there were also impressive breaks from Andy O’Hara (38 & 31) along with Phil Fitzgerald (30 & 27).

Doddy’s B team also won 6-0 in their game with Con Club A. Paddy Tyndall was in great form, chalking up three 20 plus breaks in his 96-2 demolition of Tommy Tickle. Peter Tomlin (26 &20) and Dave Hartley (22) also joined the breaks party.

Ince secured their first win of the season by defeating the Brook Club 4-2 at home. Brian Hardy sent them on their way with his maiden victory this term and was then ably supported by the Pope’s, Mark, Andy and Mike, who all won well.

Breaks of 31 & 24 helped Andy Tucker to a fine 91-22 win over Andy Hesketh at the Gild Hall. However, Andy proved to be the only winner for Legion D as they went down 5-1 to Our Lady’s B. Messrs Watterson, Kershaw, Francis, Mooney and Wilkins did the damage.

Con Club B are in second place with a game in hand on the leaders after a useful 4-2 home win over Les Dodd’s A. In the opening frames Graham Clark returned to form with a 73-29 defeat of Andy Rae while Dave Mills took the last three balls to deny Adam Maylor. The next two were also shared, Graham Booth for the visitors and Mark Bellas for the home side both scoring. The win was then secured via Tony Bellas’ 61-33 defeat of Terry Gulliver, aided by a 30 break and Ritchie Bell’s Black ball win over Dave Quinn.

The Final match of the week saw Legion B share the spoils with Holy Trinity, 3-3 at the Legion. Carl Finlayson won well for the Legion, 57-18 over Kenny Woodward, while Luke Palethorpe won in similar fashion for the visitors. The other four frames were very tight, all decided on the Pink or Black and equally shared leaving the 3-3 scoreline, appropriate as neither side deserved to lose.

The ‘Joe Rigby’ Handicap League is now up and running and can be viewed by logging on to the website at www.formbysnooker.org.uk.
