Leading Duo Share Derby Spoils
By Graham Clark

In the latest games of the Formby & District Snooker League Les Dodd’s A and B teams have shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw. In a tight match Andy Rae with a 36 break and Dave Quinn who defeated Mark Hopgood stood out for the A team whilst Peter Tomlin won well for the B. This draw keeps them both as joint leaders along with Legion B and Con Club B on 29 points. However, Les Dodd’s B have a game in hand on their 3 closest rivals.

Legion B missed the opportunity to go top on their own after losing 3 Black Ball fights in a 3-3 draw with the Brook. The frame of the match saw Gary Rimmer hit a 20 break and Phil Harbon chalk up a 22. Phil eventually ran out a 54-42 winner. Carl Finlayson ended the unbeaten run of Trevor Kinley by a 58-29 winning margin.

Con Club B kept up their challenge with a 4-2 home win over Legion C. Mark Bellas (29 & 25) won well for the home side along with Alex Tyrer who rolled back the years with a vintage potting display. Ray Lavelle starred for the visitors with a fine 40 break en route to a 68-37 defeat of Ritchie Bell.

Crosby Comrades are 1 point behind the Co-Leaders after a 6-0 home win over Les Dodd’s C. R.Wilson with a 43 break and R.Radford with a 39 were once again impressive, ably assisted by strong performances from Andy Entwistle and Anthony Mackay.

Our Lady’s A had a useful 5-1 win over Legion D at the Gild Hall. Peter Kershaw and Jimmy Tristram showed decent form for the Gild Hall men who are up to seventh place on 21 points.

The Final match of the week saw Holy Trinity secure a 4-2 home win against Our Lady’s B. James Holman won a high scoring encounter against Colin Watterson and Tom Sanders also won well. Andy Hesketh starred for Our Lady’s, Hitting a 23 break in his 60-32 defeat of Trinity debutant C.Zeniou.
