Comrades Repel Siege
In the fourth week of the Formby & District Snooker League leaders Crosby Comrades faced the strongest challenge they have encountered so far. They beat Con Club A 4-2 in a match that could not have been tighter. Tom Tickle and Mark Bellas starred for the home side both winning their games. All four of the losers for the Con Club A lost on the black. A stalwart performance by the Cons players and all credit to Comrades who withstood the persistant pressure.
Les Dodd B scored a perfect six against Ince Club. Paddy Tyndall in the breaks again with 38-23 breaks on his way to beating Mike Pope. Dave Hartley also Knocked in a 33 break in his match against Andy Pope. John Thackerey came closest for the home side losing a black fight to Peter Harrison.
Our Ladys B lost 4-2 at home to Brook Club. Phil Kershaw and Andy Hesketh won for the home side. Chris Hannon just Pipped Colin Watterson on the black. Brook Club dominated the other three games with very heavy scoring from Trevor Kinley.
The Legion derby game resulted in a 4-2 win for the B side. Colin Bennett and Paul Tilley were the winners for the home side beating Harry Boydell and Chris Howard respectively. Gary Rimmer had a 28 break in his convincing win over Mike Radcliffe. Trevor Lynch had a close encounter with Gordon Dale, with Gordon taking the black to win. Ray Lavelle lost his first outing of the season losing to an in form Carl Finlayson.
Con Club B with the other perfect six in their match with Holy Trinity. Peter Brown back to winning ways beating Tom Sanders with a 32 break for good measure along the way. A close game between Luke Palethorpe and Graham Clark with Graham taking the frame on the black. A useful win for Con B moving them up a league place.
In the final league match of the week our Ladys A beat Les Dodd A 4-2 away. Jez Williams for the home side beat Frank Houghton convincingly. The other winner for the Princess Street side was John Clarke defeating Ian Dickinson. Jimmy Tristram beat Stuart Forrester comfortably with a 22 break en route. There were two black ball games and John Mycek v Bill Forrester was a blue ball game with the pink waiting. Les Dodd A could be forgiven for thinking that the result could just as easily have been reversed in their favour. However,it was not to be!
Crosby Comrades now lead by only two points with Con Club A Our Ladys A and Legion B all in joint second place. I have a feeling that the next couple of weeks are going to set the scene for stabilizing the league leading positions. Then again the positions might move even closer!
