Mark's Breaks Put Cons Back On Track but Andy Tops Break Trail In the latest games of the Formby & District Snooker League Con Club B are back on track following last weeks defeat, helped greatly by the sparkling performance of Mark Bellas.
Mark opened up with a 46 break before missing a simple Red. Mark wasn’t put off by the missed chance however and again set about building another break. Mark ended up rattling a difficult final Pink after an excellent 64. Breaks of 32 (Graham Clark) and 26 (Tony Bellas) helped ensure the Con Club beat Les Dodd’s C 6-0.
However, Mark’s thoughts about holding the highest break of the season were short lived as Andy Rae hit a superb 71 for Les Dodd’s A in their 4-2 home win over Our Lady’s A. Trevor Ford also won well for the home side while Our Lady’s Jimmy Tristram inflicted the first defeat of the campaign on Gavin Douglas.
Legion B recorded their first back to back 6-0 wins for many a year by defeating their C team. Carl Finlayson won the frame of the match, trading mini breaks with Ray Lavelle, before running out a 74-40 victor. Mark Rimmer also impressed, coming back from 33 adrift to overhaul Peter Bennett on the Black. The B team may have set another record with this victory, they only left 5 minutes before ‘last orders’ was to be hailed from the bar, before completing their success.
Les Dodd’s B remain on top with a 5-1 away win at the Brook. Skipper Mark Hopgood won well for the leaders, his 45 break helping him to a 77-36 win over Phil Harbon. T.Kinley provided the win for the Brook, he beat the useful Dave Hagan 49-25 and remains unbeaten.
Con Club A won 4-2 away at Ince and cemented their top six position. Richard Wilson kept his unbeaten start to the season going with a comfortable 62-22 defeat of Terry Rogers and Rookie John Braithwaite recorded his first Formby League victory.
Our Ladys’s B shared a 3-3 draw at home to Crosby Comrades. Roger Wilkins won well for the Gild Hall men but the starring performances came from the Comrades’ R.Wilson who hit a fine 51 break and Andy Entwistle who twice notched up breaks of 26.
Holy Trinity had a useful 5-1 home win over Legion D despite Chris Wagstaff ending the unbeaten start to the season for Kenny Woodward. Messrs Cook, Holman, Tom Sanders, Power & Formby secured the win with the latter particularly impressive in defeating P.Aindow 87-36.
