Robbie Lands Clare Cup in Battle of Comrades Robbie Wilson has won the Clare Cup after defeating his Crosby Comrades team mate and good friend for over 20 years, Rob Radford, 3-1 in front of a decent crowd at the Gild Hall.
The first frame saw Rob always with a lead before Robbie earned a chance on the Brown with all four balls required. Robbie confidently despatched the first three only to agonisingly miss the vital Black. After a safety exchange it was Rob Radford who took the opener.
The second frame went much the same way after Rob hit a 33 break to take a 12 point lead. Robbie once again got his chance on the Brown with the clearance required. As before, the Brown, Blue and Pink disappeared with aplomb but the Black again failed him and a 2-0 deficit beckoned. However Robbie eventually secured the Black and levelled affairs at 1-1.
Robbie went 2-1 up with the most comfortable frame of the night to leave Rob starring down the barrel. Frame four was again close, nip and tuck with some excellent safety by both players. Rob again held a narrow advantage as the Final Colours were tackled. However Robbie produced a superb positional shot from Blue to Pink to take the frame and secure his first Clare Cup.
Congratulations to Robbie and I am sure he will represent the League well in the Merseyside ‘Champion of Champions’ next year for which he has now qualified.
Could all delegates take note that the AGM is scheduled for Wednesday 13th June at Formby Legion, 8.00pm start. Lack of representation incurs a 1 point deduction carried over to the new campaign.
