All Legion Final in Harold Mills In this weeks matches of the Formby & District Snooker League the Semi-Finals of the ‘Harold Mills’ Knockout Cup have been played, leaving us with an all Legion Final.
Legion C beat Ince by 4 frames to 2 away while Legion D achieved the same feat at the Brook Club.
The C team went 3-1 up by winning three Black Ball games through Handicap specialist Ray Lavelle, Mike Radcliffe and George Howells. Brian Hardy had won for the home side 71-54. Terry Barlow then gave the visitors the frame they required, overcoming the challenge of Dave O’Shea 79-48, and thus booking their place in the Final.
The D team also won 3 of their first four frames with Andy Tucker particularly impressive in his 91-26 defeat of Dave Aughton, backed up by wins from Scott Kirby and skipper Eric McLean. Mike McCallum had kept the Brook in the match, knocking in a 20 break en route to a 70-38 defeat of Steve Kirby. Phil Harbon pulled one back, assisted by a break of 30, in beating Chris Rooney 72-48. It wasn’t to be for the Brook though as Chris Wagstaff secured the vital fourth frame, 63-20 against Steve Hollinshead, to set up the Final against their local rivals.
The Harold Mills Final, scheduled for Monday 15th May could be moved to Wednesday 10th May subject to agreement from both Captains and shall be played at the Legion instead of the Gild Hall.
The first Tower Heating Pairs Semi-Final ended in victory for Les Sullivan and Phil Fitzgerald over Colin Watterson and Roger Wilkins. They are joined in the Final by Peter Brown and Graham Clark who defeated Mark and Andy Pope. The Final is to be played Monday 8th May at the Con Club.
