Doddy's C Set Up Chance of League & Cup Double In this weeks matches of the Formby & District Snooker League Les Dodd’s C have set up a chance of landing a League & Cup double.
The C team secured their League Title by defeating Les Dodd’s B last week by 4 frames to 2. They only required a couple of points from this tie and quickly wrapped things up, taking the first 4 frames comfortably. Will Jerram inflicted only the second League defeat of the season on B team skipper Mark Hopgood and Phil Fitzgerald completed the excellent unbeaten record for the whole season, 24 wins from 24 starts. Congratulations Phil on a quite brilliant season.
Following their League Championship last week they have won through to the final of the Allan Parker Knockout Cup. They did so by defeating Holy Trinity on aggregate scores after a tense 3-3 draw. Colin Robertson, Luke Palethorpe and Steve Power all won to help Trinity into a 3-1 lead, the latter making the most of his 28 handicap start to beat Phil Fitzgerald 63-56. However, despite a 3-1 lead the aggregate was strongly in favour of the Southport based side due to Will Jerrams highly impressive performance against James Holman. Will conceded James a 33 point handicap start and thanks to breaks of 63 & 43 ran out a 134-34 winner. Holy Trinity knew that they couldn’t rely on the aggregate and needed to win 1 of the final 2 frames. It wasn’t to be though as Tim Nelson beat Peter Cook 47-17 and Kev Smith narrowly prevailed against Kenny Woodward after conceding 18 points on handicap.
Les Dodd’s A will be the opponent for their C team in the Final after beating Legion D 4-2 in the other Semi, despite only having 5 players. The absent player meant a conceded frame and 147 points deficit on the aggregate leaving Les Dodd’s A virtually having to win 4 of the 5 frames to go through. They rattled off 3 frames with wins from Andy Rae, Dave Mills & Jamie Campbell before Legion skipper Eric McLean kept his sides hopes alive with an 85-57 defeat of Dave Quinn. Gary Flynn then beat Chris Wagstaff 91-33 to impressively book his teams place in the Final.
