Top Four all Hit Sixes To Set Up Tense Final Week
By Graham Clark

In the latest games of the Formby & District Snooker League, the top four sides all recorded 6-0 victories which leave Con Club B and Les Dodd’s B level with just one game to go.

Con Club B beat Legion B at home with Tony Bellas particularly impressive, hitting breaks of 47 & 23 in his 71-13 defeat of Carl Finlayson. Tony was backed up by breaks from Graham Clark (26), Peter Brown (25) and Mark Bellas (22) in this comfortable win.

Les Dodd’s B secured their maximum against Legion C with some scares, notably a missed Black Ball chance for Mike Radcliffe against Jamie Rae.Frank Bradley and Peter Tomlin also saw their games decided on the colours.

Les Dodd’s A remain in third Three points off the lead after defeating Holy Trinity at home. Andy Rae hit a 45 break in his 66-16 victory over James Holman while Dave Mills (22) and Gavin Douglas (23) also won well.

Crosby Comrades completed the perfect sixes for the top four by defeating Our Lady’s B at home. Robbie Radford continued in recent excellent form, notching a break of 42 in compiling 102 points against Andy Hesketh. Anthony Mackay and Reg Watts also chipped in with breaks of 26 and 25 respectively.

Legion D and Con Club B drew 3-3 at the Legion. Chris Wagstaff impressed in his 67-36 win over Adam Maylor while there was a debut victory for Con Club new boy Wayne Wallace. The Con Club’s self acclaimed ‘Boy Wonder’ , Richard Wilson, failed to spark as he went down 56-18 to Alan Swift.

Our Lady’s A won 5-1 at home to the Brook with Peter Kershaw and Frank Houghton winning well. Peter defeated Steve Hollinshead 70-36 while Frank gained the notable scalp of Phil Harbon 72-42. Trevor Kinley was the solitary victor for the Brook with a useful 74-18 defeat of Ian Dickinson.

The Final Match of the week resulted in a 5-1 home win for Ince against Les Dodd’s C. Dave O’Shea, Phil Fellowes and the Popes, Mike,Mark and Andy were all on target for the home side with Phil Fellowes the pick of the performers in his 70-33 defeat of Les Dodd’s skipper Mike Lount.

Congratulations to Les Dodd’s A and B along with Legion B and Crosby Comrades who made it through to the Semi-Finals of the Allan Parker Knockout Cup.

Finally my sincere sympathies go out to Jimmy Tristram and Andy Entwistle who have both recently suffered bereavements. My thoughts and those of all members of the League are with you and your families at this sad time.
