Doddy's C Set to Clinch Maiden Title
By Graham Clark

In the latest matches of the Formby & District Snooker League, Les Dodd’s C have put themselves in a virtually unassailable position in the race for their maiden League Title.

The Princes Street outfit hold a 6 point lead going in to the Final Match, ironically against their B team who are in second place. A 6-0 victory for the B team would force a play-off between the Southport based sides. The latest win for Les Dodd’s C came in a 5-1 away win at the Brook. Phil Fitzgerald was again in the breaks, notching 22 twice in his 79-17 defeat of Steve Hollinshead. This was Phil’s 23rd win from 23 starts and is just one victory away from a 100% season. Well done Phil and Good Luck for Game 24. Phil Harbon ensured the Champagne was kept on ice for the Champions elect by narrowly defeating Les Sullivan 56-46.

Les Dodd’s B kept their outside title hopes going into the final week by defeating Legion B 5-1 at the Legion. Peter Tomlin with a 24 break was the pick for the visitors while Mark Rimmer made it 4 out of 4 against the two top sides with a 45-32 defeat of Dave Hagan.

Con Club B are now out of the title race after beating Our Lady’s B 5-1 at the Gild Hall. Graham Clark (56 break), Tony Bellas (39 & 32) and Richard Bell (27) all impressed for the Con’s who must hope Les Dodd’s C inflict a defeat on their B team to clinch the runners-up spot.

Con Club A beat Our Lady’s A by 4-2 at home. Allan Corlett, Kris Forrester, Phil Fellowes and Allan Parker did the damage, the latter impressing in defeating Bill Clare 66-19.

Holy Trinity had a 4-2 home win over Legion C. James Holman won well, conceding just 2 points in his defeat of Alan Morris. Ray Lavelle beat his ‘Living Flames’ Handicap Semi-Final opponent 65-61, a win that should give Ray confidence as he shall receive a 28 point start when their Handicap match gets underway. This game also saw the maiden victory for Tom Sanders, a 46-33 defeat of Legion skipper George Howells.

The scorecard for the Legion D V Ince match has at the time of going to press not been received for which Legion D have been fined 1 point.
