Doddy's B Dent Crosby Title Hopes
By Graham Clark

In the latest games of the Formby & District Snooker League, Les Dodd’s B have dented the title hopes of Crosby Comrades and have themselves gone top.

The Southport based side triumphed 5-1 away to Crosby Comrades, all five wins going down to the colours. The performance of the match came from the Comrades solitary victory, Ritchie Barber hitting a 45 break in his 73-12 defeat of Frank Bradley.

Les Dodd’s A also saw their title bid hit the rocks as they beat the Brook 4-2 at home, losing out on 2 Black Ball fights to Phil Harbon and Trevor Kinley. Breaks by Gavin Douglas (52), Andy Rae (37) and Dave Mills (24) ensured the home side keep a feint chance of title glory although they will have to rely on their rivals slipping up.

Legion B are finishing strongly in the race for the handicap league after a 4-2 away win at Ince. Gordon Dale, Harry Boydell, Chris Howard and Mark Rimmer all won well to send the Legion 4 up, but the last 2 vital frames slipped away as Dave O’Shea and Phil Fellowes both prevailed for Ince.

Our Lady’s A and Con Club A drew 3-3 at the Gild Hall. John Mycek and Peter Kershaw sent the home side 2-0 up in decent style before Keith Turner and Tommy Tickle levelled matters with narrow victories over Bill Clare and Frank Houghton respectively. The last frames were shared as Jimmy Tristram comfortably scored for Our Lady’s while John Braithwaite scored for the Con’s.

The Legion Derby ended in a 4-2 win for the D team over the C. Alan Swift ended the impressive recent run of Colin Bennett 57-36 and Chris Wagstaff also impressed, beating Trevor Lynch 60-14.

The Final match saw Holy Trinity win 4-2 at home to Les Dodd’s C. Peter Cook returned to the Trinity side in impressive style, notching a 22 break en route to a 79-29 defeat of E.Denia. C.Zeniou registered his maiden victory, a 46-19 win against Mike Coward. The frame of the match saw Stephen Metcalfe outgun Luke Palethorpe 67-33.
