Ton-Up Andy Breaks League Record In the latest matches of the Formby & District Snooker League, Formby Champion Andy Rae has broken the League Record for highest breaks.
Andy knocked in a superb 105, beating the previous highest 104 by Crosby Comrades Paul Withe in the 1993/94 season. Legion C’s Terry Farrell was the player in opposition for this record breaking effort. Andy’s victory was backed up by Graeme Booth (29) and Dave Quinn (20) as Les Dodd’s A stormed to a 6-0 demolition of Legion C. Congratulations to Andy on his remarkable achievement, the League is proud to have him in its ranks.
Les Dodd’s B failed to take full advantage of their C teams night off, struggling to a 4-2 away win at Legion D. Mark Hopgood once again impressed hitting a 31 break en route to his 20th League win of the season. Chris Wagstaff played well for the home side recording a 54-40 victory over Dave Hagan. This win leaves the Southport side as favourites to lift the ‘Joe Rigby’ Handicap League Trophy.
Con Club B had a decent 5-1 away win at Holy Trinity. The Con’s led 3-1 after the first four frames were fiercely contested. Then Mark and Tony Bellas stamped home their advantage with Mark beating Luke Palethorpe 86-42 and Tony hitting a 40 break on his way to a 102-6 defeat of Peter Cook.
Our Lady’s A’s bid for the ‘Joe Rigby’ again took a knock as they were held to a 3-3 draw at the Brook. The Brook won 3 of the first 4 frames after victories from Dave Aughton, Jack Jones and Phil Harbon (22 break). The Gild Hall men then fought back to earn the draw with John Mycek particularly impressing in notching up a 29 break.
Con Club A shared a 3-3 home draw with Ince. In a low scoring affair each pair of frames were halved with neither side able to stamp their authority on the game.
The final match of the week saw Legion B secure a 4-2 win against Our Lady’s B at the Gild Hall. Carl Finlayson won a high scoring encounter over Phil Kershaw while Chris Howard also impressed. For the home side there were useful wins for Andy Hesketh (66-51 over Dave Rimmer) and Jason Francis (59-50 over Gary Rimmer).
