Race For Title Intensifies In last weeks games of the Formby & District Snooker League the race for the title has intensified even further with just 2 points now separating the top 4 teams.
Last weeks leaders Crosby Comrades have been joined on 99 points by Con Club B. Crosby struggled to a 4-2 away win over Legion C with Robbie Wilson (36) and Robbie Radford (25) amongst the breaks. They didn’t have it all their own way though as Colin Bennett kept his decent run going with a 55-7 defeat of Anthony Mackay. With Alan Morris also scoring the Legion could have gone 3-1 up only for a Black Ball defeat for Ray Lavelle against Neil Farrington.
Con Club B won 5-1 in their derby match against Con Club A. The opening five frames came fairly comfortably with breaks from Tony Bellas (29 & 20), Alex Tyrer (23) and Peter Brown (22). Ritchie Bell then fluked the Brown to go 18 in front over Richard Wilson with just 18 left on the table, only to see the White go in-off. The frame eventually went to a re-spotted Black which the A team rookie just held his nerve to dispatch in the Centre pocket.
Les Dodd’s B are 1 behind the leaders after a 5-1 home win over Our Lady’s A. John Eames returned to the side and overcame John Mycek 71-11 aided by a 34 break. It wasn’t the highest break of the match though as Paddy Tyndall chalked up a 38 in his 96-7 winning scoreline. Dave Hartley matched these performances with breaks of 23, 24 & 25 as he scored 106 points against Ian Dickinson.
Les Dodd’s A move ever closer and are now just 2 behind following their 5-1 away win at ‘Joe Rigby’ favourites Our Lady’s B. This was a workmanlike performance by the Southport based Cue men with most frames going down to the colours.
Legion B lost 4-2 at home to a Holy Trinity re united with a few of their star names. Colin Robertson, James Holman and Steve Power all returned with victories while Costa Pittounikos stood out with his 71-47 defeat of Legion skipper Gordon Dale. Carl Finlayson shone for the Legion with his 60-33 win over Luke Palethorpe.
Legion D kept alive their slim hopes of landing the handicap league with a 5-1 away win at Les Dodd’s C. Chris Wagstaff was impressive as he notched up 100 points against Michael Coward while Kevin Aindow hit a 20 break on his way to a narrow win over A.Stanley.
The final match of the week saw the Brook share the spoils with Ince 3-3 at the Brook. Trevor Kinley won in impressive style for the Brook, hitting breaks of 29 & 22 in his 104-10 win over Martin Bibby. Mark and Mike Pope again won for Ince although they were both eclipsed by the performance of Phil Fellowes who defeated Marcus Bailiff 82-21.
