Les Dodd's C Go Ten Clear
By Graham Clark

In this weeks matches of the Formby & District Snooker League Les Dodd’s C have opened up a Ten point lead at the top, although their B team who are second have a game in hand.

Les’s C team recorded opened up the lead by defeating Our Lady’s B 6-0 at home. The writing was very quickly on the wall for the visitors as Phil Fitzgerald (55 & 29) and Andy O’Hara (60) took the opening frames by an aggregate of 183-1.

Les Dodd’s B still hold hopes of challenging their local rivals after beating Holy Trinity 4-2, also at the Princes Street venue. Mark Hopgood and Frank Bradley both impressed for the home side, the latter notching up a 31 break for good measure. Peter Cook and Luke Palethorpe both won well for the visitors, Peter inflicting a rare defeat on Dave Hagan and Luke chalking up a 21 break en route to victory over Paddy Tyndall.

Les Dodd’s A only fielded 5 players at the Ince Club and struggled to a 3-3 draw. Ince’s Mark Pope, aided by a 21 break, beat the useful Dave Mills 66-16 while Gary Flynn and Graeme Booth both won well for the Southport based outfit.

Legion C secured a 5-1 home victory over the Brook. Peter Bennett stood out for the Legion with his 68-44 win against Phil Harbon. Steve Hollinshead stopped the whitewash for the Broook with a 51-24 defeat of Alan Morris.

The final match of the week saw Legion B win their derby game with the D team by 5 frames to 1. Carl Finlayson hit a 32 break in his 61-32 defeat of Jimmy McLintock while Gary Rimmer and Harry Boydell also won well. Despite this heavy defeat the D team still remain in the tight race for the ‘Joe Rigby’ Handicap League.

The Con Club derby was postponed and is scheduled to be played on Tuesday 4th April.
