Comrades Strike Again
By Gerry Murch

In the second week of the new season Crosby Comrades scored another perfect six,the only team to do so.Their hapless prey last week was Legion C who seldom lose 6-0. I am getting the feeling Comrades are sending a message out to the rest of the league! Terry Barlow looked like he made it it a decent contest with A.Mackay but all the other frames looked pretty convincing for Comrades. Robbie Wilson had a 23 break en-route in a fairly low scoring frame by his standards.

Ince Club v Legion B ended up with the honours shared. Gary Rimmer starring for the legion with a 21 break on his way to defeating John Thackerey. Andy Pope took a close frame with Mark Rimmer with Mark Pope securing a win over Carl Finlayson. Phil Fellows was the other winner for Ince beating Dave Rimmer by a decent margin. Gordon Dale beat the useful Mike Pope, with Harry Boydell the other winner for the legion.

The Our Ladys Derby game resulted in a 4-2 win for the A side. A close run game between Jimmy Tristram and Phil Kershaw ended with a tremendous pot brown from Phil, who then took blue and pink to seal the frame in a deserved win.A good performance from Dudley Lidiard out-gunning Frank Houghton.Messrs Dickinson, Kershaw.and Clare all won well. A particularly clinical performance from John Mycek to defeat Andy Hesketh in convincing style.

Holy Trinity v Les Dodd B resulted in a 4-2 win for the Princess Street team. John Sanders and Steve Power replied for the home side.Steve securing a close run frame against Brian Jarrett.Mark Hopwood won his frame against Colin Robertson with a comfortable margin. The star of the match was Paddy Tyndall who demolished the very experienced and capable James Holman, with breaks of 29-25 along the way.

Con Club A had another useful 5-1 win, this time against Les Dodd A. They are now the nearest contenders to Comrades lagging by two points. All the Con A players won well with Alan Parker and Mark Bellas the highest scorers. D.Matthews Replied for the home side beating Alan Corlett.

Con Club B v Brook Club resulted in a draw.Steve Hollinshead beat Peter Brown.Trevor Kinley won a close contest with T.Barnes. Phil Harbon back on his game after last week with a very convincing win over Richard Bell. Graham Clark also in high scoring form (breaks 38-20)during his defeat of Dave Heaton. Brian Kenyon and A.Kenyon the other two Cons winners.

A few surprise results this week, guess everyone is still settling in. Comrades seem to have settled from week one. Will they make it a hat-trick next week? Not if Les Dodd A can help it!
