Les Dodd B Impress to Go Two Clear In the latest games of the Formby & District Snooker League Les Dodd’s B have impressed again, beating Ince 5-1, and opening up a 2 point lead at the top.
New signing John Eames starred once more for the table toppers, notching up a 59 break while he was ably assisted by Mark Hopgood (36) and Dave Hagan (24 & 25). Mark Pope inflicted the first defeat this season on a Les Dodd’s B player with a 75-23 win over Frank Bradley.
Les Dodd’s A fielded a very strong side to defeat Con Club B 4-2 at the Con Club. Andy Rae hit a 29 break early on against Graham Clark and never looked back, securing an 81-16 victory. Gavin Douglas and Will Jerram also won well for the visitors defeating Tony and Mark Bellas respectively. The Southport based side must surely go close in the title race on this evidence.
Legion B beat their D team by 6-0 to race up the League. All the victories were achieved reasonably comfortably with Dave Rimmer particularly impressive, scoring 80 points en route to defeating Adrian Griffith.
Con Club A showed new boys Les Dodd’s C how hard life may be in the Formby League by inflicting a 6-0 whitewash on their Princes Street rivals. Con Club Skipper Keith Turner beat his opposing Captain Mike Lount by a handy 75-9 margin to move his side into the top half of the table.
Crosby Comrades showed they could be a force to be reckoned with after a useful 4-2 home win over Holy Trinity. Anthony Mackay again won well, his 29 break helping him gain the decent scalp of Luke Palethorpe, despite Luke chalking up a 24 break himself. R.Wilson also impessed with a 39 break in his defeat of Paul Formby.
The Legion C verses the Brook and the Our Lady’s derby both ended in 3-3 draws. The Brook looked set for victory, Messrs Bailiff, Kinley and Harbon sending them 3-1 up. However Mike Radcliffe and Terry Barlow dug in to grind out the draw for the Legion.
In the Gild Hall Derby Jimmy Tristram and Peter Kershaw put the A team 2 up only to see their club rivals level matters through Phil Kershaw and Dudley Lidiard, the latter beating Bill Clare in a low scoring encounter. The final frames were shared with Ian Dickinson securing his second win of the season for the A team and Andy Hesketh winning his seasonal re-appearance for the B.
