Stalemate at the Top
By Gerry Murch

In the penultimate week of the Formby & District Snooker League Les Dodd “B” and Crosby Comrades both won 4-2. This made no difference to the four point deficit between them. Les Dodd “B” dropped two points to our Ladys “A” Jim Tristram and Peter Kershaw winning for the visitors. A fine 64 break from Paddy Tyndall and 27 colour clearance from Jamie Rae following a well placed snooker that was negotiated but left the yellow on. Not enough though they needed a 6-0.

Crosby Comrades also dropped two points to Con Club “B” Ali Tyrer just missing out on a black fight with Anthony Mackay. Neil Farrington also lost on the black to Richard Bell despite his 31 break. Richard had a 23 himself and Graham Clark knocked in a 41 break en route to beating Norman Lee. Andy Entwistle back in the squad beating Peter Brown.

Con Club “A” playing away beat Ince Club 4-2. Andy Pope and Paul Lathom replied for the home side. A particularly good win for Paul beating Graham Booth in convincing manner with breaks of 23-22 along the way.

Brook Club lost 4-2 to Legion “B”Chris Hannon beat Carl Finlayson on the black and Trevor Kinley had a score-line that looked like another of his potting exhibitions. Star man Phil Harbon was missing.

Our Ladys “B” at home lost 4-2 to Les Dodd “A”. Roger Wilkins and Andy Hesketh the home side winners. Close game between Jason Francis and Brian Hardy almost could have been a draw but Brian prevailed on the black.Breaks of 27 Dan Matthews and 22 Bill Forrester.

No score card received from Legion “C” v Holy Trinity.

It looks like Crosby Comrades have the title sealed going into the last fixture still four points ahead of Les Dodd “B”. It would require a 6-0 win from Les Dodd “B” and a 4-2 defeat for Comrades to force a play-off.One half of that equation may be a possibility but I would not bet on the other. Comrades have been in pole position from week one and barring some kind of miracle, they will justly clinch it next week.
