Doddy Men Breach the Gap
By Gerry Murch

The match of the week has to be Les Dodd “B” doing what they had to beating Crosby Comrades 4-2. There is now only four points between them with only two fixtures to go. Les Dodd “B” will kick themselves if they end up losing the title through fine points incurred, one point incurred only a week ago .Paddy Tyndall was in fine form and decimated one of the best players in the league Rob Radford with a fifty one break en route. Robbie Wilson and K. Woodcock replied for the home side beating Mark Hopgood and Peter Harrison respectively. A good game from Jamie Rae beating the experienced Reg Watts. Looking at the last two fixtures Comrades will not be looking to drop any points if they are to win the title. Les Dodd “B” did what they had to and their tails will be up now.

Les Dodd “A” at home beat Ince Club 4-2. Paul Latham and Mike Pope replied for the visitors. Breaks of 28-27 from Kevin Petford and 23 from Paul Latham.

Holy Trinity v Legion “B” was a 4-2 win for the home side.Good wins from Mark Rimmer and Dave Rimmer beating Colin Robertson and Paul Formby. Luke Palethorpe on song in his demolition job on Carl Finlayson with a thirty break for good measure.

Legion “C” had a perfect 6-0 against Our Ladys “B” All fairly convincing wins with breaks of 24 from Colin Bennett and 24 Ray Lavelle.

The Con Club derby resulted in honours shared 3-3. Good win win from Graham Booth beating Graham Clark. A couple of close games and a 34 break from Ali Tyrer on his way to beating Allan Corlett. Paint Brushes at dawn hey?

Our Ladys “A” v Brook Club resulted in 5-1 win for Brook. Steve Hollinshead played a solid game to beat Jim Tristram Bill Clare and Gerry Murch loked well in the running until their opponents James Kilduff and Chris Hannon spoilt things by polishing off all the colours.Potting demolition jobs from Messrs Kinlay and Harbon. John Mycek saved the whitewash beating Chris Reynolds. All in all an excellent result for the Brook.

With Crosby Comrades playing Con Club “B” this week and Les Dodd “B” playing Our Ladys “A” my guess is the league Title will be decided the following and final week of the campaign….. Makes it exciting!
