'B' Teams Have The Edge
By Graham Clark

In the latest games of the Formby & District Snooker League, it is the ‘B’ Teams who have the edge in the race for both the League Championship and the ‘Joe Rigby’ Handicap League.

Les Dodd’s B are now one point ahead of Con Club B in the League Championship after their 5-1 away win at the Ince Club. Dave Hartley (28 break) , Jamie Rae and debutant Brian Jarrett all impressed for the new leaders. Con Club B however could only manage a 4-2 home win over Legion D with Chris Wagstaff and Jimmy McLintock scoring for the visitors. Breaks of 40 & 28 from Mark Bellas and a 36 from Graham Clark stood out for the Con’s.

Our Lady’s B have cemented their place at the top of the ‘Joe Rigby’ after a useful 3-3 draw away to Legion B. Dudley Lidiard beat Carl Finlayson and Phil Kershaw also won well to give the visitors a bright start. The next three frames went the way of the Legion through Chris Howard, Mark & Dave Rimmer with Colin Watterson securing the draw for Our Lady’s in the final frame, overcoming Gary Rimmer 47-17.

Les Dodd’s A and Crosby Comrades are both five points off the lead in the main League after 5-1 wins against Legion C and Our Lady’s A respectively. A barrage of breaks by Andy Rae (43,39 & 24), Gavin Douglas (36 & 35) and Dave Quinn (24) showed the Princes Street’s domination of their contest. Crosby Comrades nearly went 2 down following Anthony Mackay’s defeat to Peter Kershaw and Neil Farrington’s re-spotted Black win over Jimmy Tristram (28 break) by 72-65. Crosby recovered strongly though led by Andy Entwistle’s 23 break en route to an 85-45 defeat of Gerry Murch.

The Brook Club hadn’t recorded a 6-0 win until last week, now they have Two, following their whitewash against Les Dodd’s C. Phil Harbon was the pick of the performers, notching a run of 30 in his 70-35 victory over Les Dodd’s skipper Mike Lount.

The final match of the week resulted in a 4-2 awy win for Con Club A over Holy Trinity. Keith Turner made in seven wins on the spin with a 60-22 success over Costa Pittounikos for the Con’s while Luke Palethorpe won well for the home side. Holy Trinity only fielded five players and as per League rules have forfeited the sixth frame of their match and have also been fined one point.

The Competition draws have all been made and have been despatched to delegates or placed on Club Notice Boards.
