Doddy's C Kick for Home
By Graham Clark

In this weeks matches of the Formby & District Snooker League Les Dodd’s C have stolen a march on their rivals and kicked for home in the race for the Championship.

The Princes Street outfit beat Holy Trinity at home by 5-1 to open up a three point lead. Phil Fitzgerald again impressed, breaks of 40 & 24 enabling him to defeat James Holman 74-1, leaving his 100% record still intact after 17 games. Phil was well supported by skipper Les Sullivan who chipped in with a 35 break.

Con Club B are in second place after their 4-2 home win over Our Lady’s A. The Con’s led 4-0 with Peter Brown and Tony Bellas securing hardfought victories over John Mycek and Jimmy Tristan respectively. However, as with the matches against the other two top sides (when they twice led 3-1), the Con’s then lost the final frames thus letting their rivals off the hook. Peter Kershaw and Gerry Murch were the victors for the Gild Hall men, both impressing with comfortable wins.

Last years Champions, Les Dodd’s A, continue to climb the table following a 6-0 away win at Our Lady’s B. Andy Rae starred once more, notching up his fifth 50 plus break of the season, and added a run of 23 for good measure. Gary Flynn also won well, beating Jason Fancis 69-11.

The Legion’s B & C teams have put themselves in the ‘Joe Rigby Handicap League’ picture with 5-1 victories over their latest rivals. The B team beat the Brook with Carl Finlayson and Gary Rimmer both showing decent form while the C team overcame Ince with strong performances from Terry Barlow and Peter Bennett.

The final match of the week saw Legion D earn a 3-3 home draw with Con Club A. Alan Swift and Chris Rooney stood out for the Legion while Alan Corlett starred for the visitors.
