Brook Club Back to Winning Ways
By Graham Clark

In the latest matches of the Formby & District Snooker League the Brook Club have got back to winning ways after a 4-2 home victory against Our Lady’s B.

Jack Jones, Dave Aughton, Phil Harbon and skipper Ally McCallum did the damage in what was a closely fought encounter, all six frames decided on the final colours.

Con Club B recorded a 5-1 away victory at Legion C. The match didn’t start well for the Cons as Adam Maylor lost heavily to a highly impressive potting display from Ray Lavelle and Tony Bellas narrowly overcame Colin Bennett. However the next four all went their way with Mark Bellas standing out with his breaks of 22 & 25.

Les Dodd’s B are now joint leaders with the Con Club after their 4-2 away win at fourth placed Our Lady’s A. Strong performances from Dave Hagan, Mark Hopgood and Paddy Tyndall (23 break) started the match well for the Southport based side. However Jimmy Tristan beat the inform Peter Tomlin and John Mycek narrowly overcame Frank Bradley to give the home side a chance of a draw. It was not to be as Dave Hartley beat Dennis Warren 50-33 to seal the victory.

Formby Champion Andy Rae was once again in fine form in Les Dodd’s A’s match with Legion D. Andy hit breaks of 49 & 21 in his 92-20 defeat of useful rookie Dean Oliver. Gary Flynn and Graeme Booth also won well for the Princes Street outfit.

Con Club A shared the spoils with Holy Trinity in a 3-3 home draw. James Holman atoned for his defeat against Kris Forrester earlier in the season by securing a 84-20 victory this time. James also knocked in a 34 break for good measure. Mark Abbott hit a 22 break but still couldn’t stop Peter Cook running away with their frame 67-39. Black Ball wins for Keith Turner and Dave Roberts helped secure the draw for the Con’s while Kenny Woodward’s impressive defeat of Allan Corlett ensured the 3-3 for the visitors.

The scorecard for the Ince Club V Les Dodd’s C match has as yet not been received for which a 1 point fine has been raised against the Ince Club.

Could all players and delegates please note that the next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 14th February at the Legion and that all competition results should be with the secretary by Monday 13th February.
