The Con Club achieved their victory aided by breaks of 30 by Tony Bellas and 31 from Graham Clark, the latter in immediate response to a 24 by his opponent, Stephen Metcalfe.
Les Dodd’s B are now in joint second place with Crosby Comrades after they managed a 6-0 whitewash of the Brook. Frank Bradley hit a 31 against Phil harbon while Paddy Tyndall was also in decent form, his breaks of 25 & 30 taking him to a comfortable 84-10 defeat of Dave Heaton.
Crosby continued their charge with a 5-1 home victory over the Ince Club. Break machine Robbie Wilson secured a fine 51 while team mates Reg Watts (25), Andy Entwistle and Anthony Mackay (both 24) also hit the breaks trail. Mark Pope provide Ince with their solitary win, a 52-32 defeat of Ian Murray.
Les Dodd’s A have slipped to fourth aftera 4-2 away win against Our Lady’s A. Andy Rae notched the highest break of the week in the headline match-up against Jimmy Tristram, a fine knock of 53 while Gavin Douglas also won well. Bill Clare and Gerry Murch both impressed for the Gild Hall men with victories over Trevor Ford and Dave Quinn respectively.
Con Club A matched their B team by recording a 6-0 victory against Our Lady’s B. Tommy Tickle and Keith Turner starred for the Con’s and were ably backed up by messrs. Corlett, Wilson, Maylor and Parker. This represents an alarming improvement in form for the Con Club following their qualification for the ‘Bottom-Half Cup’.
Legion B moved back into a strong position in the Handicap league after a 5-1 derby win over their C team. Despite losing the opening frame to Ray Lavelle the B team reeled off the next five with Carl Finlayson and Harry Boydell the pick of the performers.
The Final match of the week saw Holy Trinity win 4-2 away to Legion D. James Holman chalked up a 31 break en route to a 71-25 defeat of Jimmy McLintock for Trinity while Kevin Aindow returned to the League for the Legion with a narrow 44-43 win over Colin Robertson. The Legion fielded an unregistered player that cannot be registered until the next League meeting in February and have therefore been fined 1 point and the frame concerned cancelled. A shame for C.Zeniou who would have secured his maiden victory in the League had his frame been legitimate.
