Legion Secure Maximum Points
By Graham Clark

In this weeks matches of the Formby & Districct Snooker League, Legion D have secured their first 6-0 whitewash since records began in 2000. The Whitehouse Lane side achieved the feat with the Brook Club in opposition. Chris Rooney, Steve & Scott Kirby, Dean Oliver, Chris Wagstaff and Eric McLean were the victors, the latter playing a Captains Innings by defeating Phil Harbon 52-42.

There was no change at the top as the leading four sides all secured 5-1 victories. Les Dodd’s C beat Con Club A aided by knocks of 46 from Phil Fitzgerald and 32 & 24 from Steve Sullivan.

Les Dodd’s B overcame Legion C with the unbeaten Mark Hopgood again in decent form, his 22 & 23 breaks beating Alan Morris 88-27. Paddy Tyndall also chipped in with a 21 break en route to victory over George Howells.

A return to form for Mark Bellas and Graham Clark helped Con Club B to their win over Ince. Mark hit breaks of 21 & 28 while Graham chalked up runs of 20,22 & 31. However, despite Ince being a player short, the 6-0 once again eluded the Con’s. Matt Laird ensured there was no 3 way tie at the top with his 71-44 win over Ritchie Bell.

Our Lady’s A remain in fourth after their away win at Legion B. Breaks of 21 by Peter Kershaw and Jimmy Tristan helped their cause although a similar knock from Gerry Murch didn’t save him from defeat against Mark Rimmer. The Legion could have shared the spoils but for two Black Ball defeats, Harry Boydell against Bill Clare and Gary Rimmer against John Mycek.

The Final match of the week resulted in a 6-0 away win for Les Dodd’s A at Holy Trinity. Again breaks were in evidence as Andy Rae (50) and Dave Mills (20,21 & 26) starred for the visitors. Andy beat James Homan 77-30 despite James notching up a 25 himself. The Southport based side and current League Champions have now leapfrogged Holy Trinity into fifth place although still some way of the leading pack.
