C Team Edge Ahead in Title Race In the latest matches of the Formby & District Snooker League Les Dodd’s C have edged back in front in the title race. They overcame their A team by 4-2 with breaks from Phil Fitzgerald (43), Tim Nelson (30) and Andy O’Hara (27). In fact Phil and Andy’s frames had put the C team 2 up by achieving an aggregate of 151-3 over Dave Mills and Dave Quinn respectively.
Con Club B are a point away in second after their 3-3 away draw with Les Dodd’s B who remain in third. Dave Hagan hit a 30 break to comfortably beat Graham Clark while Mark Hopgood and Peter Tomlin gained the scalps of the Bellas Brother’s, Mark and Tony. The match had began firmly in the Con Club’s favour with wins from Adam Maylor, Peter Brown and fortunately from Ritchie Bell, a couple of flukes and assistance from his opponent saw him come back from a deficit of more than 30.
Our Lady’s A confirmed their pole position for the ‘Joe Rigby’ Handicap League and kept alive hopes of challenging yet for the League Championship, by defeating Legion D 6-0 away. Skipper Dennis Warren starred for the Gild Hall men with breaks of 20 & 22 while Jimmy Tristan chipped in with a 24.
Legion B also achieved a 6-0 victory, their victims being Ince. Gary Rimmer again impressed, a 25 break helping him to a 66-37 defeat of Andy Pope and Carl Finlayson kept his recent upturn in form going, chalking up a 22 break en route to a 68-36 win over Mark Pope.
Con Club A also started the New Year in decent form by defeating the Brook by 5-1. Phil Fellowes notched his maiden victory this term and Allan Parker made a winning return to the side to compliment victories from Tommy Tickle, Dave Roberts and skipper Keith Turner. Phil Harbon ensured the Brook didn’t go back empty handed by narrowly beating Allan Corlett.
The Final match of the week resulted in a 5-1 away win for Legion C over Our Lady’s B. Phil Kershaw won well to help the home side share the opening frames but strong performances from the Legion, especially from Terry Barlow and Colin Bennett, ensured this useful victory.
