Highest Break Raised By Andy
By Graham Clark

At the half-way stage in the Formby & District Snooker League, Con Club B remain on top by 2 points from Les Dodd’s A with the Princes Street’s B team 3 points further adrift in third.

The leaders had a 5-1 home victory over Holy Trinity with Tony Bellas and Peter Brown both in good form, Tony hit breaks of 29 & 24 while Peter made it Thirteen from Thirteeen aided by a 31 break.

Les Dodd’s A also won by 5-1 against Ince. Formby Champion Andy Rae again showed his class with a fine 99 break against Dave O’Shea, the highest of the season so far. Phil Fellowes provided Ince with some Christmas cheer, defeating Dave Quinn 51-31.

Les Dodd’s B made it 5-1 wins for all the top 3 by defeating their C team. Dave Hartley won well for the B team along with Peter Tomlin and Mark Hopgood, the latter hitting a 22 break for good measure. The highest knock of the match however came from the C team’s solitary win, a fine 34 by Stephen Metcalf in his 64-61 battle with Paddy Tyndall.

Crosby Comrades continue to close on the leaders after a 6-0 whitewash of the Brook Club. Anthony Mackay hit a 32 break en route to his Twelfth win of the season while Robbie Radford chipped in with runs of 24 & 42 in his 74-30defeat of Phil Harbon. Crosby were inflicting a second dose of pain on the Brook in close succession following their ‘Mac & Jack’ final victory 2 days earlier.

Our Lady’s A and Legion B are secure in mid-table after a 3-3 draw at the Gild Hall. Jimmy Tristram won a decent contest with Carl Finlayson 74-39 despite Carl compiling a break of 21. Frank Houghton also won well for Our Lady’s, defeating Harry Boydell 76-34. For the Legion the 3 victories were all gained by Rimmers, Gary against Bill Clare, Dave against Ian Dickinson and Mark against Mike McNamara.

The Final match of the Year saw Legion C share the spoils with Con Club A at the Legion. Keith Turner and Tommy Tickle sent the visitors 2 up, the former ending a sorry run of 5 consecutive defeats. The Cons could have doubled their advantage had Adam Maylor won his Black Ball thriller with Peter Bennett, with Allan Corlett making it 3-1 on the other table. The Con Club couldn’t hold on to their lead however as Terry Barlow and skipper George Howells both prevailed to ensure honours were even at 3-3.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all Players and their Families a very Merry Christmas and all the best for the second half of the campaign.
