Champ's Break Building in Evidence Again
By Graham Clark

In this weeks matches of the Formby & District Snooker League the current Formby Champion, Andy Rae, has once again showed off his break building skills. Andy knocked in breaks of 68 & 45 in his 113-2 defeat of Dave Aughton from the Brook Club. Andy’s feat helped Les Dodd’s A to a 4-2 home win. However they only provided 5 players for which a 1 point fine has been raised.

The other two sides from Les Dodd’s were paired this week against each other, the C team running out 4-2 victors over the B. Phil Fitzgerald (28) and Andy O’Hara (31) hit the breaks trail for the C team with Peter Tomlin impressing for the B, breaks of 23 & 30 seeing off the challenge of Lee Briscoe.

Con Club B are the new leaders following their 5-1 away win at Legion B. Adam Maylor starred for the Con’s, chalking up a 23 break for good measure while Gary Rimmer stopped the whitewash for the home side by capturing the notable scalp of Mark Bellas 58-23.

The C verses D Legion derby ended in a 4-2 win for the D team. This match provided the first victory for rookie Dean Oliver who hit a 21 break en rote to beating Peter Bennett 61-21. Scott Kirby also recorded his maiden victory of the season, also aided by a column break.

Holy Trinity quickly opened up a 4-0 lead over Our Lady’s A with John Sanders and Steve Power both impressing. However Jimmy Tristan and Ian Dickinson saved the Gild Hall men’s blushes by defeating Luke Palethorpe and Tom Sanders respectively and thus narrowing the margin of defeat to 4-2.

The Final match of the week saw the Ince Club record back to back victories against Our Lady’s B following their win over Legion D last week. Andy & Mike Pope along with Terry Rogers and Dave O’Shea all won to seal this latest success.

The Final of the ‘Mac & Jack’ Team Pairs shall be an all Les Dodd’s affair with the A taking on the B. This follows their respective comfortable Semi-Final victories over Our Lady’s and the Con Club’s B teams.

May I take this opportunity to wish all players, sponsors and League officials a Merry Christmas and all the very best for 2006.
