Legion B Brought Back Down To Earth

In the latest games of the Formby & District Snooker League, Legion B have sensationally been brought back down to earth, suffering their second consecutive 6-0 defeat, this time against leaders Con Club B. Breaks of 45 (Mark Bellas), 24 (Peter Brown) and 22 (Richard Bell) helped secure the Con Club victory with Andrew Bellas also making a useful seasonal reappearance.

The chasing pack of Les Dodd’s A, Les Dodd’s B and Crosby Comrades all recorded 5-1 victories over Holy Trinity, Legion C and Ince respectively. Dave Mills hit a fine 53 break for Les Dodd’s A against James Holman while Dave Quinn also made the breaks column with a 22. Les Dodd’s B returned to winning ways with Dave Hartley (24) ,Mark Hopgood and Peter Tomlin (both 23) all hitting the breaks trail. Robbie Wilson stood out for Crosby Comrades in their latest victory, securing breaks of 31 & 27 in his 74-15 defeat of Andy Pope. The Top Four have now surged 9 points clear of fifth placed Legion B.

Les Dodd’s C suffered a 5-1 home defeat to Our Lady’s B. Phil Kershaw and Andy Hesketh were the pick of the performers for Our Lady’s while Stephen Metcalf again won well for the Prince’s Street outfit. However for the second week running Les Dodd’s C played an unregistered player for which the frame concerned was conceded and a 1 point fine raised on each occasion.

Con Club A had a 4-2 home win over Legion D. Tommy Tickle, Allan Corlett, Adam Maylor and Allan Parker all won for the Con’s while Jimmy McLintock kept his recent good form going for the Legion with a Black Ball win over Con Club skipper Keith Turner.

The Final match of the week saw Our Lady’s A win 4-2 at the Brook Club. The frame of the match paired Phil Harbon for the Brook with Jimmy Tristram for Our Lady’s. Phil, aided by a 34 break ran out an impressive 93-37 victor.
