Comrades Take Early Lead In First Week
By Gerry Murch

Crosby Comrades were the only team to score a full house in the opening week of the Formby & District Snooker League. Their six nil whitewash of Our Ladys B makes them the early leaders. High scoring performances from Formby champion Robbie Wilson and N.Farrington. Jason Francis just lost out to Reg Watts and it looked a reasonable contest between Andy Hesketh and A.Mackay.

Good performances from Messrs Barnes,Tyrer,Bell and Kenyon for Con club B with Mark Rimmer and Carl Finlayson replying for the home side. Mark won a high scoring frame against Peter Brown and Carl took the notable scalp of Graham Clark on a re-spotted black.

Con club A 5-1 against Legion C puts them one point behind Comrades. Early days! Mike Radcliffe excelled for the visitors beating seasoned campaigner Tom Tickle.Mark Bellis and Alan Parker standing out for the home side in high scoring frames with a 31 break from Alan for good measure on his way to defeating Terry Barlow.

Les Dodd A with a lot of new players beat Holy Trinity 4-2 with James Holman and Luke Palethorpe replying for the visitors.Les Dodd B also won 4-2 against Brook Club Reynolds and James Kilduff were the home sides winners defeating B. Jarret and Jamie Ray respectively.Mark Hopgood Knocked in a 31 break on his way to defeating Brook club star Phil Harbon.Paddy Tyndall in good potting form with breaks of 24-20-20 on his way to overcoming Steve Hollinshead. Andy Ray playing for the B side this season beat the useful Trevor Kinley with a 21 on route.

A scrappy start for Our Ladys A defeating Ince club 4-2. With the exception of Jimmy Tristrams game the rest could have gone either way. Jimmy had a crisp 40 break on his way to amassing over hundred points to defeat a good humoured Andy Pope who could only stand and watch.Good performance from new boy Jason Thackeray for Ince. He looked like winning at one stage. It was his first league game and my bet is,he is a young player to keep an eye on! Bill Clare and Mark Pope probably want to forget their game. Take away the points for fouls and they just beat the minimum score possible by one point.Funny how some frames can go as they are both excellent potters. There are quite a few new players this season it would help if you could get your Christian names on the score card to save me calling you by your initials.
