Les Dodd B Show Clear Title Intentions
By Graham Clark

In the opening week of the Formby & District Snooker League Les Dodd’s B were the only side to achieve a perfect Six-nil, Con Club A their victims.

After surviving the opening two tight frames the Southport based outfit then impressively rattled up the next four thanks to strong performances from Dave Hagan (22 & 24), Frank Bradley (22) and a decent debut from John Eames who beat the Con Club’s new signing Adam Maylor 61-23.

Les Dodd’s A are close on their local rivals heels after a 5-1 win over their C team. Andy Rae carried on where he left off last season , notching a 40 break en route to a 96-34 defeat of Paul Bimson. Dave Mills also won well along with a winning return to the A team for Alec Fairley. Adam Shears had the honour of scoring the first Formby League point for the Princes Street venues new side.

Legion D also won 5-1, away to the Brook Club. Adrian Griffith made a useful debut for the Legion, out gunning the Brook Club’s star man Phil Harbon 54-42. The other Legion newcomer R.Graham also played well, however his 31 break wasn’t enough to beat Brook debutant T.Kinley who triumphed 56-43.

The Holy Trinity/Our Lady’s A, Ince/Legion C and Legion B/Crosby Comrades all ended in a share of the spoils with 3 points gained all round. Colin Robertson starred for Trinity in his 75-37 defeat of Bill Clare while Jimmy Tristram won a decent contest with James Holman 67-47 to help level matters for the Gild Hall men.

In the game at Ince the home side were assisted by a good win for Mike Pope and a debut victory for Phil Fellowes. They had helped Ince to a 3-0 lead only to see Mike Radcliffe, Terry Barlow and Living Flames Handicap champion Ray Lavelle strongly redress the balance.

Crosby Comrades returned to Formby League action after a gap of a few years and secured their draw at Legion B. Anthony Mackay and Andy Entwistle both won well for the newcomers while Carl Finlayson and Mark Rimmer starred for the Legion.

The Our Lady’s B verses Con Club B was rescheduled for Monday 11th September due to the Gild Hall sides participation in a Charity Golf Day.
