Con Club Back on Top In the latest games of the Formby & District Snooker League Con Club B have gone back to the top of the League, by 1 Point from Les Dodd’s A.
The Con Club had a 5-1 home victory over the Brook with Alex Tyrer proving the pick of the victors, potting confidently in his 74-18 defeat of Phil Harbon. Chris Reynolds ensured the Brook didn’t leave empty handed with a 67-38 victory against Tony Bellas.
Les Dodd’s A secured an impressive 6-0 whitewash of Legion B, thus destroying the Legion sides title bid. However, Gordon Dale’s Cue Men are still in pole position for the Joe Rigby Handicap League. Andy Rae again shone for Les Dodd’s, achieving a 96-2 defeat of Mark Rimmer.
Legion D produced the result of the week, holding Les Dodd’s B to a 3-3 draw at the Legion. Jimmy McLintock piled more misery on Dave Hagan, this was Dave’ fourth defeat on the spin, hitting a 20 break for good measure. Alan Swift outgunned Mark Hopgood 72-60 on points and on breaks to as Alan’s fine 42 just shaded Mark’s 37. Chris Wagstaff secured the draw by inflicting the first defeat of the season on Paddy Tyndall 60-49. Despite these impressive performances the highest break of the match came from Les Dodd’s Peter Tomlin who chipped inruns of 44 and 20 in his 96-13 defeat of Adrian Griffith.
The highest break of the week was recorded by Anthony Mackay of Crosby Comrades in his sides 5-1 home win over Con Club A.Anthony notched up an impressive 45 in his win over Allan Corlett. Robbie Wilson also impressed, chalking up breaks of 25 and 24 breaks in amassing 119 points against Jon Braithwaite.
Legion C had a 4-2 home win against Les Dodd’s C. Mike Radcliffe, George Howells, Terry Barlow and Peter Bennett all won for the Legion whilst Stephen Metcalf impressed for the visitors with breaks of 24 twice.
Ince were in action twice last week, securing 3-3 draws against Holy Trinity at home and Our Lady’s A away, the latter being a rearranged fixture. Andy Pope returned to action for Ince recording victories in both games, including a 24 break against Bill Clare.
