Legion C Gain First League Win

In the latest games of the Formby & District Snooker League, Legion C have gained their first league win of the season by defeating their D team by 4 frames to 2.

Colin Bennett and Mike Radcliffe gave the C team a fine start with victories over Alan Swift and Chris Wagstaff respectively. Terry Farrell in frame 4 and skipper George Howells in the final frame then secured this vital win.

Les Dodd’s A and B are joint leaders after both recording 4-2 wins, the A away to the Brook and the B at home to Crosby Comrades. Breaks of 36 by Dave Mills and 28 & 27 by Andy Rae were the starring performances from Les Dodd’s A. Dave’s victory came despite a 27 break from his opponent Dave Heaton. Les Dodd’s B shared the opening 4 frames with Crosby before Mark Hopgood and Dave Hartley secured the win, the latter inflicting the first defeat of the season on Robbie Wilson by 68-22.

Legion B remain just 3 points behind the leaders after a 3-3 home draw with Ince. The Legion led 3-1 but had to settle for a share of the spoils after Mark and Dave Rimmer lost Black Ball battles to Dave O’Shea and Terry Rogers.

Con Club A and Our Lady’s A also drew 3-3 in what proved a match of two halves. The Con Club took the opening 3 frames via the cue’s of Tommy Tickle, Allan Corlett and Adam Maylor, the latter impressing with a 29 break. The Gild Hall cue men then struck back through Jimmy Tristram John Mycek and Frank Houghton. John Myceks victory was achieved despite his opponent, Allan Parker, compiling a break of 24.

The final match saw Les Dodd’s C and Holy Trinity fight out a draw at the Princes Street venue. Adam shears and Brian Hardy sent the home side 2 up before Luke Palethorpe and Colin Robertson levelled matters for Trinity. Les Dodd’s skipper Mike Lount then recorded his maiden Formby League victory, 43-21 over A.Scott. However the home side were denied the chance of recording a team victory as they only fielded 5 players. As per League rules a 1 point fine has been raised.
