Knockout Cup Matches
By Gerry Murch

Last weeks fixtures in the Formby & District Snooker League saw Brook Club win the preliminary round of the Harold Mills Trophy. Using their handicap well Brook defeated Les Dodd “A” 4-2. Trevor Kinley conceding 14 points and aided by a 27 break out-gunned Kevin Petford. A break of 36 from John Clarke helped him to victory against Chris Reynolds in a scratch match. Phil Harbon won well against Graham Marshall to whom he was conceding 42 points and had a 22 for good measure. There was only 46 in the match overall aggregate, so the handicapping was not that far out.

In the quarter finals of the Alan Parker Knock Out Cup there were some close games. Legion “C” lost out to Les Dodd “B” The score was a draw and was decided by a 31 point aggregate advantage for the Princess Street side. Good handicapping again !

Cosby Comrades beat Con Club “A” 4-2. Formby Champion Robbie Wilson did the business scoring a ton plus against S. Catterall to whom he was conceding a massive 63 points. Alan corlett used his 35 point advantage well against Rob Radford winning by 36 points. Good win also for Ian Murray against Mark Bellas. It is amazing how close some of these handicaps work out !

Holy Trinity overcame Con Club “B” 4-2. Ian Barnes and Graham Clark replied for the visitors Beating Luke Palethorpe and Chris Connelly respectively. Close game between James Holman and Alan Swift but James prevailed on the black. Good win from C. Pittounikos who did not need his 21 point advantage in the end to beat Andrew Kenyon.

In the final match of the draw Les Dodd “A” beat Legion “B” 4-2. Some very close games. Good performance from Stuart Forrester against Carl Finlayson in a match that looked as though it was settled on the last two colours. Mark Rimmer v Graham Marshall also looked a close run affair. All in all the Match could have swung either way, but in the end well done to the Princess Street lads.
